From its inception, MHCHS has focused on academics and traditional values. Working together in a small community of learners, students have chosen to pursue their futures in a place where hard work and moral character are expected and celebrated.
Though there is a great deal to learn about MHCHS, four characteristics make the school truly unique. First, at MHCHS all students adhere to a college/university preparatory curriculum. Students are encouraged to take a rigorous academic course load including additional required courses in foreign language, math, and science. In addition, students experience electives in the arts and participate in Socratic seminars. Students are challenged to apply Habits of Mind that create critical and analytical thinking skills. MHCHS students’ end-of-course test scores and SAT scores are consistently among the best in the county.
Secondly, MHCHS is committed to traditional values. Students adhere to a discipline code and uniform dress code and complete required community service hours. The goal is to help foster personal discipline and civic responsibility in all of the young men and women who come to MHCHS.
Thirdly, MHCHS offers a caring and nurturing environment. With a total of approximately 400 students in grades 9-12, class sizes are relatively small. At MHCHS, students receive the kind of one-on-one attention that only a small school environment can offer.
Finally, MHCHS’ mission is to prepare students for a new global community with an increased world view. The staff is committed to helping students experience advancing technologies as they learn about and understand the countries and cultures of the 21st Century.
